Missing Hunter
November 29th, 2011. Search for missing Hunter at Davis Lake.
Pick up rolls down embankment at Norrish Creek
October 25th, 2011. A 20-year-old Surrey man died Tuesday after his truck went over a 350-foot cliff off Norrish Creek forest service road.
Mission RCMP Sgt. Miriam Dickson said the driver was driving a truck as part of a work crew that was heading up the road, and "his workmates saw the truck go over the edge" after the back tire started to slip off the roadway.
Mission RCMP, Mission Search and Rescue, North Fraser Fire Department and B.C. Ambulance paramedics were called shortly after 7 a.m. for the accident. The steep terrain made access impossible without ropes.
ATV Accident
October 24th, 2011. Mission SAR members assisted the BC Ambulance Service with an injured ATV Rider who rolled his ATV while attempting to climb a steep grade near Rolley Lake.
Logger Rescue Stave Lake
October 20th, 2011. Mission SAR members responded to assist the North Shore SAR HETS (Helicopter External Transportation System) Team at Stave Lake. The NSAR HETS Team was tasked to airlift an injured logger from the North end of Stave Lake to the Royal Columbian Hospital. Four Mission SAR Members responded in M1 (jet boat) to shuttle the patient to a landing site should the weather close in on the Helicopter. The weather held and NSAR was able to airlift the patient to the Hospital.
The Terrain that we deal with in our area and this incident reinforce the need for a HETS Team for Mission Search and Rescue.
Search for 3 Adults and 2 Children at Rolley Lake.
October 12th, 2011. Mission SAR Members were called out on a search for three adults with two children who were visiting the area and went for a hike at Rolley Lake. They made the decision to leave the maintained trail. When they realized that they were no longer aware of their location or egress route the group decided to called 911. Members of Mission Search and Rescue tracked the hikers, located them and returned them to safety.
Always remember to be prepared, and know your limits; especialy when you are taking care of persons who are not able to care for themselves.
Urban search for missing child in Mission.
September 16th, 2011. Mission SAR members were tasked to search for a 11 year old boy with autism who failed to return to home after school. After a short search he was found by Mission SAR members playing at the friends house. He had simply not told his parents that he decided to go to a friends after school.

Search for Angler on the Fraser River
September 13th, 2011. Mission SAR responded as mutual aid to Chilliwack SAR on a search for a 23 year old male who was fishing on the Fraser River when he fell into the water and never resurfaced. The body of the young male has not yet been recovered.
Search for camper on Burma Road
September 8th, 2011. Mission SAR
members responded to locate a male on the west
side of Stave Lake. The subject escorted 2 female
campers out of the area in darkness and failed to
return to the campsite. The male was not located
and the search was stood down pending further
information. He was found safe in town the following day.
Body Recovered
August 6th, 2010. On Thursday, August 5, MSAR was tasked to assist the RCMP in retrieving a body discovered in the Fraser River. A tug boat on the river noticed something strange in the wake. He went to check it out, and discovered a body floating in the water. He and others were able to bring the body to the dock, where the police did their preliminary investigation, and we assisted the coroner in removing the body from the water.
Tree Planter Breaks Ankles
May 9th, 2008. On Thursday, May 8, 2008 a 31 year old tree planter suffered two broken ankles after a fall which occurred in a remote area near the north end of Stave Lake. Mission Search and Rescue was tasked by the B.C. Ambulance Service to facilitate the removal of the injured subject. After assessing the situation specially trained members of Chilliwack Search and Rescue and a helicopter were brought in. The tree planter was lifted out from the accident site with a long line under the helicopter and transported to other rescue members located a short distance away. Once stabilized, he was flown by helicopter to waiting Mission SAR and BC Ambulance crews who were waiting at the south end of the lake.
Aircraft found after 37 years
May 27th, 2007. Mission SAR assisted Mission RCMP in the investigation of a Fleet Canuck aircraft that went missing 37 years ago. The aircraft went missing in poor weather during a flight from Powell River to Chilliwack. Remains were found and placed in the Coroner's care.
Three Stuck in a 4x4 Found Safe
January 8th, 2007. On January 1st, 2007 at approximately 2230hrs, Mission RCMP were contacted about overdue motorists. The vehicle and occupants were supposed to be home before the dinner hour and hadn’t returned home.
Mission Search and Rescue, along with Kent/Harrison Search and Rescue were called out to assist. The area in question was the back roads of Norrish Creek Forrest Service Rd in Dewdney to the Morris Valley Rd in Harrison Mills. Search and Rescue Crews worked tirelessly throughout the night and into the morning searching for the missing persons. Also aiding in the effort were the Ridge Meadows, Central Fraser Valley (Abbotsford), Chilliwack and Hope Search and Rescue Teams. At approximately 1230hrs Search and Rescue located the stranded persons up in the snow pack on Norrish Creek Forest Service Rd.
A 42yr old female and two 17 yr old males all from the Mission area, were found in good condition and were medically cleared by Ambulance services. All were glad to be off the mountain and back with friends and family.
Mission and CFVSAR perform two rope rescues on the same night (Aug 29 2006)
September 15th, 2006.
Mission Search and Rescue along with Central Fraser Valley Search and Rescue were called out twice on Sunday night to perform rope rescues from two different waterfalls in the Mission area. The first subject in his teens suffered an injured pelvis and fractured ankle in a fall while trying to beat the heat Sunday. The rope team set up multiple rope systems to get the subject to the logging road and into the waiting ambulance. The second male was walking in the dark in an out of bounds area of Cascade Falls when he fell over a cliff next to the top pools of the waterfall. His injures required a high angle rope rescue of about 120 feet and then a stretcher carry to get the subject to the BC Ambulance Service for further treatment and transport to the hospital.
Another Teen Goes Over Mcdonald falls (Sep 05 2006)
September 15th, 2006.
While Search and Rescue teams were hoping for a quiet Labour Day long weekend, the silence was shattered by yet another pager call late in the afternoon of Saturday September 3. This time it would result in a return call to Macdonald Falls, the exact location of the first incident the weekend prior. On arrival, 5 Mission and 15 Central Fraser Valley Search and Rescue were joined by 3 Kent Harrison Search and Rescue members (based in Agassiz and Harrison). The injured subject had suffered serious injures to his legs and possibly his spine when he too fell down Macdonald Falls. Again the Search and Rescue teams conducted a low angle rope rescue and evacuated the subject to the roadway where he was transferred to the care of the BC Ambulance Service.
Fire on the Water
June 12th, 2006. June 6th, 2006: Mission SAR Team members were paged by Mission RCMP to rescue two subjects in the water at Stave Lake. Subjects were attempting to swim to shore from their burning boat, and were seen by an aircraft in the area who reported the fire to RCC, who then contacted RCMP for assistance. SAR members arrived at the Stave Lake boat launch and conferred with BCAS and RCMP on scene. It had been reported that the two subjects had been picked up near shore by residents in the area. MSAR jet boat team members took RCMP to the logging camp where they were met by a vehicle. MSAR zodiak team proceeded to the area that the burning boat had been located where RCMP were able to confirm that the subjects were safe and sounds. The second boat team located the remains of the burnt boat. No injuries were reported.
ATV Roll-over Recovery
June 1st, 2006. May 30th, 2006: Mission SAR members responded to assist in the recovery of a ATV operator who driven over an 100' embankment. The subject was brought up the high angle slope with the assistance of Rope Rescue members from Central Fraser Valley and Chilliwack SAR groups. The subject was taken to hospital with breathing difficulties and possible spinal injuries.
RCMP Evidence Search
June 1st, 2006. May 30, 2006: Four Mission SAR members responded with a Ridge Meadows SAR manager and RCMP to search for evidence along the West shore of Stave Lake. This was in response to the discovery of an unknown subject found deceased in the area on May 27th. The RCMP investigation is on-going into the identity and cause of death.
Body Recovery on Stave Lake
June 1st, 2006. May 26th, 2006: Seven Mission SAR Members responded to Stave Lake to recover the body of a male subject discovered by boaters on the Western shore. RCMP and Provincial coroners were on-scene to assist with the recovery. No information has yet been released on the identity or the circumstances of the deceased.
Mutual Aid Call End Positively
May 7th, 2006. May 2nd, 2006: Two Mission SAR members responded to a mutual aid call to Ridge Meadows at about 4AM. Near Kanaka Creek, the Ridge Meadows team had been searching all night for a missing 77 year old woman. The search included police dogs and bicycle hasty searches of all the trails in the area as well as roadside searches.
Upon arrival 3 teams were formed and grid searches started. At daylight a helecopter was brought in as well. The subject was found only about .5 k yards from the Command vehicle, where she had gone for a walk and fallen down a drop off beside the road. She was unable to be seen from the road as she was behind and partially under a log. She had head injuries and was hypothermic. Four members administered first aid while the rest set up 2 rope systems for an embankment rescue.
The subject was packaged and taken by ambulance to the hospital, where it was later learned that she was diagnosed with a a fractured skull and was likely unable to respond to the search calls that went by her several times the night before.
It was a great experience for all Memebers involved, knowing that she may not have survived without Search and Rescue finding her very near that time frame.

May 2nd, 2006. To help kick off Emergency Preparedness Week, Mission Search and Rescue will be in Heritage Park on May 7th. Mission SAR is in the final stages of Recruiting new members and will be demonstrating Wilderness Survival, Orienteering, Embankment Rescue, and Patient Care and Packaging. Scheduled from 10:00 to 14:00, the events are designed to show the public and prospective members what Mission Search and Rescue is all about and how the stages of a search progress. Come out and lend a hand or be a spectator or a scenario victim!

AGM and New Executive!
April 26th, 2006. Mission-DARD Search and Rescue Society's Annual General Meeting was held April 20th. The 13 attending members elected some new faces to the executive of the team. Recruitment Drive '06
April 26th, 2006. Junction Mall in Mission will be the scene of the next Mission SAR equipment display in April. Come out and view the Rescue vehicles, water craft and search and rescue gear on display from 10:00 to 14:00 on Saturday, April 29th. Members of the public are welcome to come by and get hands-on experience and get questions answered about joining the Team!
River Search Negative
April 2nd, 2006. March 28th, 2006: Mission SAR volunteers responded to a report of distress flares on the Fraser River early this morning. Responding to the 04:30 page, members used Rescue 1 Jetboat to light up the river and its banks with negative results. No source of the flares were located and the search was stood down by the RCMP pending further investigation.
Recruiting Drive Underway
March 29th, 2006. March 20th, 2006: Mission Search and Rescue is looking for outgoing individuals interested in the great outdoors, wilderness survival, helping lost and stranded persons, and contributing to the growth and improvement of the society. You will be trained in various search and rescue techniques including: Ground Search and Rescue, Watercraft operation, Swift Water Rescue, Rope Rescue and Leadership opportunities. Watch for Mission SAR members and vehicles at community locations in April and May. Training is scheduled to start in May, 2006.
Stave Lake Reservoir Mapping
March 29th, 2006. March 19, 2006: Mission SAR volunteers launched several watercraft into the upper Stave Lake reservoir on Sunday to chart the old river channel. With the lake water level at its lowest in years, The opportunity allowed for visual observation of the logging stumpage hazards remaining from the early 1900's, as well as the depth and course of the pre-dam river channel. Members were met with rain, wind, hail and knee deep mud during the two hour excursion.
Vehicle in River: Stood Down After Confirmed Empty
March 14th, 2006. March 12, 2006: After unpacking and heading home from the morning incident, Members responded to an afternoon dispatch for: Vehicle in the River, 20km East of Mission. Swift Water Rescue members responded by River Rescue Jetboat, but were stood down before arriving. Rescue trucks responding with the Zodiak were able to assist recovery efforts of the vehicle which was determined stolen and abandonded.
First Aid Provided to Missing Person Found After Cold Night in Woods
March 14th, 2006. Mission SAR members responded early Sunday morning, March 12th, 2006, to search for a missing 43 year old man. The temporary resident of Miracle Valley, North of Mission, did not return after from a day hike with companions. Mission SAR was contacted when he did not return after 24 hours. Nine SAR members attended the search, which ended with the subject being located cold and wet at a rural house 3.5 hours later. First aid and dry blankets and clothing were administered before he was returned to his residence.
Missing Man Found Safe
March 11th, 2006. A 39 year-old man who had been reported missing over the weekend of February 25/26 has been safely located. The Mission resident was reported missing after going for a walk in Heritage Park. Mission and Central Fraser Valley Search and Rescue teams worked together in an extensive search with Mission RCMP. An Abbotsford Police Service Dog was also utilized, but nothing was found. The missing man was found out of town on Tuesday.
